The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) under the patronage of the Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) programme implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) with funding support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), held a series of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with key categories of stakeholders in disaster management, from 1st February to 3rd February 2023, in obtaining recommendations/ suggestions for improvement of the overall effectiveness and adeptness in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR).
Accordingly under the patronage of the Director General of the Disaster Management Centre, Major General (Rtd.) Sudantha Ranasinghe, a workshop was held on 21st February 2023 at Jaic Hilton (Hilton Colombo Residencies), Colombo 2 with the participation of over 90 participants representing various organisations under the categories mentioned above, to validate the content of the circulated draft report as well as to obtain ideas about the way forward.
Representatives of various organisations such as government entities, private sector companies, INGOs, UN agencies, local NGOs, community based organisations and volunteer groups contributed to sharing their inputs to draft the report on the “Current status of preparedness for disaster response in Sri Lanka”.
